About
This blog corner is to post/share tactical workflow bits with colleagues, friends and developers. Most of the custom tools / workflows my team uses today have been created in very close collaboration with software developers (specially McNeel & Associates and Luxology), by other users of the software and by 3rd party developers.
Because I enjoy and greatly benefit from this collaborative process, I’m not a believer of BigCad, OldCad, SalesmenCad, PLM software, and to certain degree closed platforms or monopolistic ones where there’s little innovation (although sometimes the lack of a better alternatives forces us in that direction).
I have not software agendas, and I use what I see fits best. I propagate this philosophy to a software-neutral team, where people are free to use whatever they want as long as their data is accesible. The same way some designers prefer ballpoint pen, over prismacolor pencils and others choose fineliner II pens, we mix and match Rhino, Solidworks, Modo, Magics, and coexist with Catia V5, NX5, I-deas, Mastercam, etc.
We do however choose software based more on developing approach, software company culture and relationships than feature sets, salesmen calls and catered events. Any features that we want are only a few (or a few thousands) lines of code away if we’ve chosen the right partner to serve our needs, and not the other way around.
Given the nature of my job, I cannot discuss design process or approach beyond this tactical/workflow level.
